DENTAL CROWNS

Dental Crowns

A dental crown, also known as a “cap,” is a dental restoration that is placed over a tooth to improve its strength, shape, size, and appearance. It is a fixed prosthetic device that is cemented onto an existing tooth or implant, covering the visible portion of the tooth that lies above the gum line.

Dental crowns are often recommended for teeth that are significantly damaged, decayed, or weakened by root canal therapy. They can also be used to support dental bridges, cover dental implants, or for cosmetic purposes such as to improve the shape or color of a tooth.

There are several types of dental crowns, including porcelain, ceramic, metal, and composite resin. Each type has its own advantages and disadvantages, and the choice of material depends on factors such as the location of the tooth, the patient’s preference, and the dentist’s recommendation.

How Long Does Treatment Take?

Properly fitting a dental crown requires a minimum of two visits with a dentist to ensure the effectiveness of the procedure. During the first visit, our Los Angeles dentists will remove any decay or rot, make a mold of the tooth, and then fit a temporary plastic or metal crown. On your second visit, our dental crown specialists will remove the impermanent crown and replace it with the final crown. Once properly put in place, the final crown is cemented in and you will be left with a beautiful, natural-looking smile.
